What do you get when you've been a drummer since '73, opened for B.B. King, Greg Allman, had Jeff Healy sit in with you at the Slippery Noodle, played with Flashback, Barrel House Blues Band, Willie Pooch Band, bartended with your brother Ed, for years, and started an annual legendary backyard party for all things bar, restaurant, and music that included the likes of Rusty Bryant, Flip Jackson of the Eddie Kendricks Band, Martha Reeves, Willie Pooch, Harold Smith and Bob Mahoney for hundreds of your closest friends and lasted almost 30 years? Other than a really long sentence?
You get ROOP BROTHERS BAR. Al and Ed Roop took a page from their favorite bar at Treasure Island, Fl. and opened Roop Brothers Bar in 2006. An incredible line-up of bands, friends, and fun are the ingredients for one of the best venues in the U.S. Al and Ed got it right and Delaware, Ohio loves all of it. Potlucks, chili cook-offs, salsa contests, bike runs, clam bakes, People-In-Need Toys Drives, and, of course, the infamous BBQ Dave and his Buckeye Boys BBQ just add to this music lovers environment. Really does give a new meaning to neighborhood bar.
I want to add one more thing, and this is coming from Caryn. Al and Karoyl Roop have to be two of the nicest people you'll ever be lucky enough to meet. They do a tremendous amount of good for the community. Ed and Mango are sorely missed. He would have been quite proud of Roop Brothers Bar. I just know he found a great bar stool way up high.
